SOCIAL SEEN

 Chili Festival
Beautiful weather and plenty of fun activities brought out hundreds of Lakers to the fourth Chili Festival at Bridgewater Plaza on Nov. 4. Sponsored by the SML Chamber of Commerce, the festival included craft booths, face painting, caricatures and, of course, chili tasting! Prizes were awarded to Bernardo O’Higgins Celtic Chili (People’s Choice for  Showmanship), Legal Heat (People’s Choice for Taste), and Red Hot Chili Mamas (Judges’ Choice for Taste).

Flotilla For Toys

The 9th Annual Virginia Dare Flotilla For Toys took place on Dec. 9, a clear, calm, moonlit SML night. Approximately 350 people participated in the parade and thousands more watched from shore as 25 boats decked out in their holiday finest traveled up and down the main channel.  Organizer Alice Swain said she expected the event to reach its goal of collecting 2,000 toys for area children in need.
