Playing Poker On The Water
By Tina Price

The Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association, joined with the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership, will once again hold their annual Poker Run on Saturday, May 18.
This all-day event will be highlighted with crewmembers of 75 boats trying to get a great spread on cards, like a Royal Flush.
The purpose of this fundraising event is to promote boating safety to the participants and on-lookers.
Those worthwhile organizations that will be recipients of donations based on the income derived from this event are:  Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Department.
Card stops along the way for the 2002 Poker Run include:  Shoreline Marina, Campers Paradise, Indian Point Marina, Mariners Landing, VA Dare Marina, Smith Mountain Dock & Lodge, and Magnum Point Marina.
The fun will begin on May 17 when participants will enjoy light refreshments and entertainment at R.T.’s Dock & Dine, from 6-8 p.m.
The SMLBA would like to extend a personal thank-you to the management at R.T.’s Dock & Dine for their hospitality of hosting the “Meet and Greet” and to Parrot Cove for allowing the usage of their docking facilities.
Coordinators for the 2002 Poker Run are Barry & Marilynn Bridges.  The 2002 Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association officers are as follows:  president-Bob Black, vice president-Chuck Poss, treasurer-Judy McFaden.  Directors are Woody Wigglesworth, Connie Black, Bruce Link, Barry Bridges, Michael Brown, Morris Johnson Jr.
