Playing Poker On The Water By Tina Price The Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association, joined with the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership, will once again hold their annual Poker Run on Saturday, May 18. This all-day event will be highlighted with crewmembers of 75 boats trying to get a great spread on cards, like a Royal Flush. The purpose of this fundraising event is to promote boating safety to the participants and on-lookers. Those worthwhile organizations that will be recipients of donations based on the income derived from this event are: Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce/Partnership, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Department. Card stops along the way for the 2002 Poker Run include: Shoreline Marina, Campers Paradise, Indian Point Marina, Mariners Landing, VA Dare Marina, Smith Mountain Dock & Lodge, and Magnum Point Marina. The fun will begin on May 17 when participants will enjoy light refreshments and entertainment at R.T.’s Dock & Dine, from 6-8 p.m. The SMLBA would like to extend a personal thank-you to the management at R.T.’s Dock & Dine for their hospitality of hosting the “Meet and Greet” and to Parrot Cove for allowing the usage of their docking facilities. Coordinators for the 2002 Poker Run are Barry & Marilynn Bridges. The 2002 Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association officers are as follows: president-Bob Black, vice president-Chuck Poss, treasurer-Judy McFaden. Directors are Woody Wigglesworth, Connie Black, Bruce Link, Barry Bridges, Michael Brown, Morris Johnson Jr.
