Raising A Family At Smith Mountain Lake.

Dear Fellow Laker,

Think Smith Mountain Lake is only for retirement? Think again; many new families continue to move to the Lake, creating a more balanced community.   With school back in session, we thought it would be the perfect time to dedicate an issue to the Smith Mountain Lake family.

Many of these families commute to work in Roanoke, Lynchburg, Rocky Mount and Bedford. Others have opened up new businesses, creating new jobs and stimulating competition. Living the American Dream, they are raising the standards of doing business on the lake and in return raising our standard of living.

There are many options for today’s SML family and this issue covers several of them, including great places to shop and our public & private schools. Also, the 11th Annual SML Fall Festival at Saunders Marina is a “can’t miss” family event.

Its that time again! Cast your ballot and give area businesses extra credit for providing excellent products and services in the 2003 “Best Of SML” awards. Show your support of the community by filling out the ballot on page 39.

Did you know that the Laker magazine accounts for only 7% of the GO Agency’s yearly revenue? Most of the Agency revenue comes from Marketing Consulting, Creative Graphic Design, Web Development and Audio/Video production from national accounts. We are happy to be one of few publications in the region making a profit and will continue to invest those profits back into to the Laker  as a community service. We also strive to make each issue better than the last.

Thank you for your support,
