While the weather has been changing from winter chill to spring breezes, the Smith Mountain Laker has been incorporating changes as well. As they say, change is good for the soul. Now on board is graphic artist Jesse Gaudio, brother of publisher Micah Gaudio, who relocated to Virginia to assist in the increased demand of the publication. The Laker team, which also includes Josh Oppenheimer and our intern, Kristina Justice, is enthusiastic about the new addition and will continue to strive to cover Smith Mountain Lake’s growing community and needs. The Laker has been making progress in updating its database for subscriptions. In addition, we’ve been able to expand the distribution points for this issue by mailing to all of Hardy and Wirtz. We’ve also added an additional 1,000 business subscriptions to Lynchburg and Roanoke so more people can enjoy reading about the Lake community and people. The Laker increased to 48 pages this month – our largest issue to date – and we’re optimistic about the publication’s continued growth. If you haven’t already, make sure you visit the Laker web site and sign up for our monthly e-newsletter. It’s a great way to keep up with what’s happening on Smith Mountain Lake. In closing, I would like to thank those individuals who have guided, inspired, motivated, or prompted me during this edition. A special thank you to those who offered their warmest congratulations to me for being awarded first place in the general news writing category for the Virginia Press Association for 2001. Without you, our loyal reading audience, it would not have been possible. Sincerely, Tina Price Managing Editor
