What’s New

By Andie Gibson

Boat All Year Long

If you’re a brave soul who enjoys boating on Smith Mountain Lake year-round, consider investing in an Xtreme Heater. The small, highly efficient marine bilge heater can extend your boat usage during late fall and early spring. The technology extends the battery life and keeps your boat’s critical components warm and dry. An automatic thermostat turns the heater on at approximately 40° F and off at 55° F. It’s dynamic and self-regulating, making it energy efficient and economical to use. Temperature-limiting components prevent the heater from overheating, and a 20-foot power cord easily reaches from heater to mounting point to circuit-protected outlet inside the cabin. Locally, Dock Solutions carries the XXHeat model (450-watt), in stock for boats up to 28 feet and on sale for just $360 – less than two winterizations. 540.721.5501

Take To The Snow

When you can’t get on the water, what’s the next best thing? Snow, of course. Wake N’ Skate Board Shop at Bridgewater Plaza has everything you need to get up and running like a pro. The shop has started carrying snowboards, boots and bindings from Burton, the most technically sophisticated, snowboarding gear on the planet. Known as the “Nike of snowboarding,” Burton is an independent, rider-owned company. Boards start at $299 and are designed for the beginner to expert by Burton’s professional team, which includes some of the most influential and successful riders in snowboarding. 540.721.1941, wakenskate.com

Lake Linens

Fast forward to this summer. The car is packed for your SML vacation. You’ve got the essentials – bathing suits, water toys and food to feed your active family for a week. What you may not remember – or have room for – are bulky baby items and linens for your vacation rental (see Vacation Rental Guide page 91). Lake Linens and More can come to the rescue. The business, owned by Lake-resident Sonja Schaible, offers a rental service for bed and bath linens and towels for visitors and vacationers. All items are professionally cleaned and pressed. You can also rent car seats, cribs, pack and plays and high chairs. Delivery and pick-up service available. 540.580.0811
