Signature 9 Gallery

If the word “winter” conjures thoughts of dull, drab and barren, you haven’t visited Signature 9 Gallery at 1309 Third Street in Roanoke. January 11 through March 25, the gallery’s theme is “Color My Winter.” The show features bright, bold, colorful artwork from 12 Virginia artists. According to business manager Nancy Stark, “Art adds life to any decor and is a great way to banish the winter blahs.” All original, the show features sculpture, pottery, oil paintings, watercolors, acrylic and photography. The gallery is open Wednesday-Friday noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10-4. On the first Thursday of every month, Signature 9 provides a limousine shuttle and participates in “Art by Night” when galleries and museums in Roanoke stay open from 5 to 8 p.m. 540.342.0703

Discovery Shop
If one of your new year’s resolutions is to clean out the basement, attic or storage room, be sure to consider the Discovery Shop before throwing anything away. Located on Scruggs Road at Westlake Corner, the shop accepts most gently used items as part of its mission to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for research and education. Popular donations include jewelry, household items, appliances, furniture, artwork and accessories, sporting goods, and lake items such as water skis and tubes. And if 2006 is the year you’ve decided to bolster your volunteering efforts, the Discovery Shop is always looking for help in a variety of areas. 540.721.0050

Artfully Framed At The Lake

Are you looking for a place to have a piece of art or a special treasure framed but think you have to drive to Roanoke or Lynchburg to get it done professionally? If you answered “yes,” you’re wrong. Artfully Framed at the Lake, located at Westlake Commons, offers professional framing at comparable prices. Owner Karen Maynard has more than 23 years of framing experience and can help come up with a unique, creative framing idea for just about any art project. She offers conservation materials to protect from acid deterioration and special glass that blocks UV rays to prevent fading. The store also carries the work of 25 local and regional artists. 540.721.1218
