Lovely Laker Landscape Contest Rules |

ENTER TO WIN! Focus your cameras and send us the best shots of your home’s garden or landscape. Laker Media is hosting the first Lovely Laker Landscape Contest. Entries will be accepted May 1 through July 25. The winner will be featured in the September/October 2008 issue of the Smith Mountain Laker and will win $1,000 in credit to spend on plants, landscaping materials, services or anything else available at Lakescapes Nursery. In addition, contenders will be featured in Laker Weekly throughout the summer. So, start snapping away!
A few words to the wise:
1. Send 5 photos of your garden or landscape, including one overview shot, to:

. Photos must be high-resolution jpegs (300 dpi) of at least 4 inches in width. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on July 25; no late entries will be accepted. Entries submitted earlier will be considered for publication in the Laker Weekly. Photo prints may also be dropped off in a sealed envelope to Laker Media: 13420 B.T. Washington Hwy. (in front of Food Lion). 2. Include the following information in your submission:
• Name of gardener(s) who designed, planted and maintains the garden or landscape with his or her e-mail address and daytime phone number.
• Number each photo and provide a corresponding caption, including plant names and a brief description of the area. • Tell us the approximate size of your garden space or landscape. • Tell us how you use your garden or landscape.

Rules
1. Only amateur gardeners are qualified to enter. Professionals (defined as those receiving payment for garden expertise or any form of landscaping) are ineligible. Gardens or landscapes that have been professionally designed, installed or maintained are ineligible. Exceptions: installation of trees and/or hardscapes (such as fencing, raised beds, paving).
2. Submit no more than five photographs as high-resolution jpegs (300 dpi at least 4 inches wide). Photographs of existing gardens or landscapes must be taken in 2008.
3. Times-World Corp. and Laker Media employees and their family members are not eligible.

or drop off at Laker Media office at 13420 B.T. Washington Hwy., Moneta. If dropping off prints, include contact information on every photo.
5. If your entry is submitted via email, Laker Media will send an email acknowledgment of receipt. Laker Media is not responsible for errors in online/internet transmission, server problems or other technical difficulties.
6. Contest will be judged by Laker Media editors and Catriona Tudor Erler, contributing writer for the Lake & Garden section.
7. By entering, you grant Laker Media the right to use your name and submitted images in its products without compensation. If the photos you submit were professionally taken, you are responsible for obtaining consent from the photographer. Photos will not be returned.
8. Contestants must be 18 or older to participate.
Prizes
The Lovely Laker Landscape Contest winner will be selected based upon aesthetic appeal of the garden or landscape (50 percent), and creativity and presentation (50 percent). The winner will be chosen from among all eligible entries, notified by phone and featured in the September/October 2008 issue of the Smith Mountain Laker magazine. The winner will receive $1,000 credit at Lakescapes Nursery. Chance of winning based on number of eligible entries.
Prize restrictions
1. Prizes are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash.
2. Winners must sign a confirmation statement that the design and maintenance of their garden or landscape was done by them, not by a professional, and that they have otherwise complied with the rules and terms outlined.
3. Laker Media may publish the name, photograph and any information provided with entries (excluding phone and address), in print and on the Internet, including in advertising and promotion.
4. Contest is sponsored by Laker Media and Lakescapes Nursery. Taxes, if any, are the responsibility of the winner.
5. Laker Media reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or to terminate, modify, cancel or suspend the contest for any reason.
6. Laker Media reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
7. Winners will be notified by telephone and/or email. Winners must claim their prize by Oct. 1, 2008.
