Lights…Camera…Action!
The Lakeside Singers are taking us to the movies.
Trinity Ecumenical Parish
June 4th & 5th 7:00pm
$7 in advance, $8 at the door.
They let us know when to laugh, when to cry, and when the monster is about to get the girl. Movie soundtracks have earned a place in our hearts. From the first tap of Shirley Temple’s shoes to the last eerie note as the Titanic sunk below the surface, we are moved as much by the music as the scene. On the first weekend in June, the Lakeside Singers will bring every captivating moment back.
Covering eight decades of music, Lights…Cameras…Action is the latest theme for the Lakeside Singers. They have a reputation for being funny, entertaining and quite talented. Last year they attracted sell-out crowds of over 800 for their two performances. With promises of Moon River, Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head and That’s Amore, there’s no doubt that this year will be as popular. Liz Stubelt said, “This is the best mix of singers we’ve had since I’ve been a part of the group.”
While they advertise this as a concert, what you really get is a show. Each performance is packed with humor, antics and even an audience sing-a-long. The Lakeside Singers now have about 80 singers, and they’ll mix up the night with four-part harmony, trios and other special groups. Liz commented, “We don’t do a lot of serious music. We gear our performances to our audience and try to provide an evening of lighthearted, popular music.”
Wayne Gibson directs and Susan Spataro is the pianist, but the event is really a team effort. In the past they have done music from Broadway, the nifty fifty’s, patriotic favorites and more. The Singers have been around for 14 years and were even one of the first groups to perform at the D-Day Memorial. Lately their shows have become much bigger productions. Liz explained, “Everyone dresses the part, we decorate and really get into the theme.” The show takes place at Trinity Ecumenical Parish. Liz said, “We are so appreciative to Trinity. They are an extremely community-focused church and open their doors to many organizations.”
If you’re ready to go to the movies, there’s no need to pad your pockets with chocolate bars or sneak sodas in under your jacket. The Lakeside Singers will serve all the popcorn, candy and drinks your heart desires at the reception after the show. That’s right – your $7 ticket covers the snacks too. If you’ve been to the movies lately you know that’s a deal too good to pass up. Tickets will be available from the cast, Scopes & Stuff, and Blackwater Café by mid-May.
